Recover HDD after a YLOD
Recover HDD after a YLOD –
Ok, lets make this short, I have the first ps3 that ever came out, the 60GB FAT ps3.
A couple days ago i got the YLOD, i did everything to try to fix it, but i think its something with the memory, the ps3 starts for 5 minutes and then it YLOD again. But now, it just doesnt boot up, you can see the animation of the wave and then it starts to lag and freezes and YLOD.
So, i bought me a 160GB ps3 SLIM (i hate slim btw), and i want to recover my data from my fat HDD. So, i put my fat hdd inside the slim, but when i want to recover file system, i get the error that you must contact technical support. (ps3 a serious error has occurred contact technical support 8001002b).
So, any ideas? I've tried everything, I even went to a friend of mine that has the PS3 fat(not the first one that came out, the second one that doesn't have the memory card readers) and i cannot do anything.
I haven't had direct experience with YLOD but I believe your only option to get the data off the fat ps3's HD will be making it work on that PS3 again.
Whenever you put any HD whether new or old into any ps3 it will make you format it just to use it, which will completely defeat your purpose.
I may be wrong but I believe your only route to save the data on the old ps3 would be to do the either the "reball" or "reflow" repair on your old PS3 to get it working again, and then you can do a backup of your data, then restore on the new ps3.
As far as doing the repair, I haven't the slightest idea where to start. I would do a search on this forum and see what you can come up with. I know I have seen guides floating around on how to accomplish this.

Thanks for the reply. But i've already tried the best method to fix the YLOD which is using a heat gun and heat up the cores and motherboard and cross ur fingers. It worked, for like 5 minutes...I guess ill have to start it again and hurry under 5 minutes and copy my savegames.
a heatgun is probably the WORST method, not the best method. unfortunately, you probably caused more problem(s) than you solved....
