Received DMCA takedown
Received DMCA takedown –

Hey guys I received a DMCA take down on github. Do you guys think I should send a counter-notice? I would fight on the grounds that the tools were completely created by the original developers and that the keys were created using math.
Opinions?
Do you guys think I will just send a target my way if I oppress Sony? Let me know I got 13 days.
EDIT: Ahh it was on Geohot's tools. I may not screw with it. But still express your opinions.

I think sony will be using this method regularly to intimidate. Im not exactly sure on what grounds as i am not a lawyer. If you decide to contest, you may want to get some legal advise and see what their opinion is ?

I would just get rid of it, theres plenty of other places to get them, i know is about principles, but sadly sony has none.
I would personally take it down, unless i had tons of money to wage war against sony.

Yea tekhub told me to get a lawyer before I decided to do anything. Not bothered. Not worth my time as it was just a mirror. If I had a job and the money I'd do it in a heartbeat but sadly I don't have anything so it's just better to bury my pride and keep going.
I've never had a DMCA take down so I honestly thought I could write up a professional counter-claim get it signed by myself and send it. Which was why I wanted advice before I actually did that. So since it requires way more then I thought screw it.

take it down and post a link to a multiupload link or something. if the links die, 'reupload' or find new ones to post

I wouldn't be too too worried about it, if they are after the Geohot tools, and you don't take it down, I can't see them attacking this one person, who doesn't know how to calculate the keys, and didn't write the software.. Why go after the end user? It will not accomplish anything but waste money. (I do not know your background, sorry if I incorrectly assumed something..)
I look at it as busting the kid who's smoking a joint on the corner of the street instead of going after the proper people..
And really, in the end there is no "proper" people to go after, this is just a bullshit scare tactic by a company that makes 8 zeroes more then us on their paychecks..

They are also harassing my host about the mirror of geohot's site. I got that today. ****ing assholes. They are either googleing my nick, or googling PS3public tools and DMCAing every single site that pops up.
It seems sony are trying to eradicate the information off the internet. The funny thing is, they can't attack non US sites. Which there are git and SVN alternatives I'm sure on non US soil. Also we have file hosting!
@Sony if you see this on google **** YOU. Quit wasting my damn time.
That's another of my sites taken down. I have a local copy and I plan to edit the page with a direct message to sony.

I 100% understand ya xPreatorianx, ****in hate those robbing cunts.. But, there's little point in digging yourself in by giving them loads of evidence etc. I reckon it's all scare tactics to buy them time to try fix issues..
What I'd do: Go Anon and use TOR or some such to hide my ass.. Then mirror all ya want, since file sizes aren't very big, bandwidth wouldn't matter. I've had to rebuild a few PC's since the removal of them so it's handy to have mirrors around, really appreciated!
Does anyone know who's responsible for mantaining Xbins..?

No idea. But since you are an admin is this site located on US soil? My avatar is the keys in color form and I honestly don't want them to start attacking me here. I wonder if I should replace it. I will also contact gary with the same question.
I also have plenty of local mirrors of all the information as that is not against the law. I can keep copies of files and source code for information and education uses only. So they can't do anything about that. When this blows over I plan to upload the stuff.
EDIT: I removed it till you respond but here it is : http://img829.imageshack.us/i/avatar1931772gif.png/
