Hmmm ok I'm seriously considering getting one from Japan, a friend of mine lives in Tokyo and can pick one up for around 250 quid.

Now I know for a fact that no step down is required, I also know that PS3 titles are NOT region locked, but PS1 and PS2 titles ARE.

But what else should I take note of if I want to consider importing a Jap PS3 to the UK?

If anyone can help I'd appreciate it.

    I would say:
    -high cost of shipping it
-jap ps3 is cut which means it only plays games without any violence and so on, uk ps3 will be uncut prolly
-blueray and dvd codes are different

    1)true
2)bullshit lol why would they cut the violence?
3)true, for dvds u could just copy them, and make them region free, for blu-ray ur kinda messed, not 100% if they are region locked.

re: BluRay movies, surely Jap and US share the "Region A" code so I could play US BR's on it?! if so www.playusa.com is my friend :-)

Shipping, quote is £60.00 which still brings the total to 310 :-) which is still 115 quid less than UK retail.

Note: Even region free PAL DVD's won't work in a Japanese PS3. I tried them in mine and it says something along the lines of "This device not designed to output in PAL mode".

[QUOTE=dr_gonzo;370751]2)bullshit lol why would they cut the violence?
    [QUOTE]

Because Japan has become as retarded as Germany with violence in Games, and as i read much in german ps3 forums, i know that the jap ps3 plays R:FoM with no blood at all, but usa ps3 and hong kong ps3 plays games no matter where from with blood and so on.

The violence in this next generation now depends on the system you have not on the game (dvd or blueray) itself.

    100% sure.
