I have some games I bought (Scott Pilgrim, and Red Faction). I added a new internal hard drive and now I'm trying to reactivate those games without updating my firmware. Unfortunately I can't seem to touch the PSN for the 1 second it would take to get the activation on 3.41.
If anyone knows how to do this with psn download manager or any other program please let me know. Thanks!
You shouldn't have needed to reactivate them. Before you even began the drive transplant, you should have used the option to "Backup" to external and then used "Backup" again to restore it. By doing that, and due to the authentication keys stored on your PS3's NAND, your PSN titles will work by default with no reactivation needed.
Mine did when I swapped out my dying 60GB for a temporary 80GB.
Did you let it hit the PSN after you did the backup? Because that is exactly what I did. It may be related to the fact that these are game shares?
Most of mine are shares too and it won't access PSN because I'm on 3.41 (I did the backup three days ago, so 3.42 had already been out and had cut off my PSN access) As long as the user accounts are still on the machine, the games work just fine.

Sabin did you actually launch any of those games and make sure they were unlocked and not in demo mode?
i just noticed today my mortal kombat needs me to activate my system.., i did a backup (took forever) and put that backup on a new hardrive so guess i may as well delete it
oh who knows? maybe someone will come up with a custom firmware Sony can't detect for a few weeks, or a way to intercept the firmware version in a proxy and change it to the latest one so you can reactivate... I'm sure someone is hard at work on it right now.
I'm telling you that if you swap them out using XMB backup, then restore that on your new HDD, the games will work instantly. If there's any kind of proof you want, just let me know what and I'm happy to provide it.Quote:

Honestly Itchyd, I think you did something wrong somewhere along the line. I only have a few PSN titles I bought myself, the rest are all from game-shares on OTHER accounts. Each one is still functioning perfectly on the new HDD after backing up the old one, since all three user accounts are still there (my own, PSN1 and PSN2) and the license files are stored inside the PS3 NAND.
Like I said, tell me what proof you need and I'll provide it. I have a UK/PAL 60GB launch PS3.

As long as you are restoring to the same PS3 (new HDD is okay), the built-in Backup Utility will make a full backup of your entire PS3 game system (including copy-protected game data and media). The backup software will not backup the local Trophy data and copyright protected Videos (not sure about PS1/2 virtual memory cards). It will backup everything else; DRM free Videos, Music, Pics, PSN Games, Game Install's, Game Data, Partial Downloads, Copy Protect PS3 Saves, etc...
To perform a backup you just need a FAT32 partitioned drive/mem card with enough space to hold everything.
Well it did not work for me. The plot thickens however. I plugged my original hard drive back in since it was just laying around untouched and guess what? The games are locked on that too now... I don't really understand that because before I backed up to external they were unlocked. Anyone else have any experience with this?
