Question about sonys trade in program
Question about sonys trade in program –
10-18-2011,05:43 PM
I have an old fat system that the video chip went out in. No amount of reflowing will fix it. I called sony and they said I could either trade it in for a slim or I could have them send me another fat system of the same model. Its $99 for the slim 120gb and $130 for another fat. Both will be on the latest firmware no matter what they will not send me one of anykind with 3.55 firmware even after I told them I have not agreed to the terms of newer firmware. ANYWAY has anyone else traded in their system or had it fixed by sony? What would be a better deal? Theres a chance the slim will be able to be nor flashed back to 3.55. I already have a fat that works its just bd movie bricked but im keeping it for ps2 play mainly and its on 3.55 of course. Anyway all and all what do you think the better deal would be? Lastly If I got the slim and I could flash it to 3.55 but not any lower could I still mary logic boards to it if I ever had to?

Save yourself some grief. Don't deal with Sony. Look on EBay, the buy/sell forum here or Craigslist. Your going to pay more, but it seems like you want to retain custom firmware.

My best bet would say that neither system will be able to downgrade below the FW version they send it to you with, that being said follow the advice given to you above my post

Honestly I really dont care about having another system with a CFW on it, I already have a working fat with CFW on it. What I want is the freedom to be able to replace a logic board if I need to, Ide rather replace something myself then pay someone to do it for me if you know what I mean. In a perfect world I would like a Nor system fully up to date on firmware that could be able to be flashed back to say 3.15 or 3.41 incase I ever needed a new logic board.

Yeah I have no idea on that, all I know is they said if I get the fat swaped with another fat it would be the exact model and would be a refurb from the 2007 era. Then slim on the other hand would be a referb 120gb but they didnt say how old it would be.

well I know when you downgrade using a Nand/Nor flasher whatever FW you downgrade to is the lowest you can go, they'd more than likely set it to where you can't downgrade

i've done the trade-in program a couple times, and it's to my understanding that the program is only with 20/60gb consoles ONLY. since i've only done the program with 60gb consoles and have been rejected for the program with a 40gb console - yeah, i think it's truth! if they've somehow changed their policies, then wow, that's good news! the only drawback to the program is that if you opt for the slim it's a cech-200x (1st gen slim). the 1st gen slims run pretty hot and didnt get any better until the later gen slims....

O really? well its a 60gb system I was thinking about trading in. Its a major POS. I have 3 cecha01 and this one only boots when it feels like it and on top of that the disc sensor went out, then finally the whole blu ray drive went out. Its been reflowed a dozen times, its never had a different logic board though its on 3.66FW. Sony says they dont care though that I could still trade it in.

O really? so say you had a system that came with 3.41 stock could you flash straight to it from 3.72?

if the 3.41 FW you downgrade to has the 'no check' patch
