Question about playing movies

Hey everyone, I haven't decided if I'm going to buy a PS3 yet because I'm not sure if it will do what I want. If I got one I would use it more for playing movies and video than I would for gaming. My question is if it will play burned blu-ray and dvd discs out of the box or if that requires modding? I did some searching but couldn't find an answer, sorry if this is already explained elsewhere.

I know for a fact it will play burned dvds. Dont know about blu ray though.

yeah not sure about burned blurays however it does play avi, mp4 and stuff so you could always get bluray quality videos instead and watch them hell you could even burn them to a bluray data disc and i dont think you would have a problem

The PS3 will play any burned discs, movies, music and pictuers, it will not read burned games thats the only thing though
and if you are going to buy a PS3 just play movies on it i strongly recommend installing a CFW on it,
you can use showtime and it will do anything you want to do with it, it will play about anything out there.
