question about buying a new PS3

hello ppl.

i want to buy a new ps3 so i can play hacked games and i want to make sure i wont end up with a unhackable ps3.
i did alittle research on the net and found out that ps3 slim 120 gb models all come with 3.55 or lower firmware, and after alot of looking arround i found a shop near my house that sell that model.

so i just want to make sure for last time (becoz u cant return stuff u buy from that store) is it 100 % sure that 120 gb ps3 will come with lower firmware then 3.55?
i really hope that som1 who really understand about ps3 models can give me a clear answer.

they should be downgradeable if its 2nd hand chances are it would need to be downgraded its the model number you need to check mainly this is off another thread to help

hi first of all thanks for the quick reply.
some things i want to mention that im going to buy that ps3 from a store so it wont be 2nd hand or the package of the game was never open.
and another thing i dont wish to mass with downgrading becoz i heard its not that easy and i dont want to spend another money for the tools.
so in those cases what the chance that a ps3 120 gb that was never open before would come with a higher firmware then 3.55?

and 1 last thing- is there any way to find out what is the ps3 type from the box without opening it? (for exmaple if its CECH-20XX / 21XX etc..)?

it should have it on the box look around the serial numbers look at the ones ive posted and google that model and base firmware and that should give you your answer.

What country are you in? Looking at PlayStation® Knowledge Center | Answer it looks like the only 120gig models are CECH-2001A

My box is buried in my spare room so can't check but I'm pretty sure that's where it is.

I dont have any specific pictures of the box but I cant imagine It strayed to far from the generic white and red box. If you want to play it on the safe side you can spend a little more and look for a PS3 bundle with a game that predates 3.55 those are all almost pretty much guaranteed to have a PS3 with <3.55 firmware. (Just doing it off of my head here) you have the Sports Champions Bundle, COD Bundle, there were some Phat bundles like the original Uncharted bundle (not the UC3 bundle) im pretty sure I still see the MGS4 bundles floating around on sale online.

Those are probably your best bets if you are looking for a new in box PS3 with the right firmware. Buying a new PS3 especially a slim is a tricky situation and I would only look in that direction if no other options played out. I really would be cautious if you are not allowed to return it, or even just shop at another retailer or an online retailer that does have a return policy. Thats just too big of a purchase to get stuck holding the bag because you got a production model that got later firmware than you were expecting.
