same sh*t different smell. to me, its dead. whether it be hardware or heating problem. now if your one of them keen fellas who loves mucking around with these things by all means. but in my experience, sorry dude its like when you put your knee out, its NEVER GONNA BE THE SAME AGAIN.

look up the reflow method. bring it back to life its easy

as soon as it turns on. turn it off, pack it and sell it to one of them game shops. once youve sold it to them (dont be a dick and sell it to another person) its there problem. they'll sell it to someone with a 1 year warranty with it and it will die within that time and it will cover that person to getting another one.

My brothers died, same thing. It turns green, then yellow VERY briefly and then flashes red. I had to use the fan self clean method just to get his Killzone 3 disc out of it (press and hold eject to turn it on and keep it held till the fan spins up to full speed then press eject again and the disc comes out).

I now have his 40GB fat PS3, which I'm going to strip down then reflow in the next few days just to get his game saves off of it as he's now bought a slim.

Yes this is a temporary fix as it WILL die again in the next few days/weeks/months if you play games on it again. I plan to put it in my bedroom and use it as a media player until it dies again, after which I'll do a final couple of reflows until that method doesn't work again then throw it out.

I myself have a 60GB launch fat (3.41 w/dongle) and a 320GB slim (3.60 OFW/PSN - Clean). The slim I use the most at the moment to try to preserve the lifespan of my fattie as the same will happen to that one day unfortunately.

The only other alternative is to have your console reballed, which again isn't a permanent fix I hear but it should last a year maybe two (unlikely) after a proper reball. You'd also have to find somewhere that reballs them as well as it's no mean feat and won't be cheap ether (probably somewhere between £100 - £150).

Sorry but he's right. It's the beginning of the end for your PS3 now, take his advice, rescue your saves then sell it on and buy a slim, but DON'T sell it to a fellow gamer as you will be screwing them.

Sorry Kid but its gone. Xeauron got the right Idea like everyother reasonable smart fella . I too ressurected my 60 gig fat thry reflow thou IT IS ONLY TEMPORARY. True it is easy but its heart breaking everytime you bring it back to life thru reflow. I only kept it around cause I couldnt justify selling it when I initially bought it for $1000 aussie bucks. Im a dad with bills so money for me is very sacred [nah the bloody wife would kill me if I got another one]

So Ive got a slim we the family play online with and my fat sits in my room (I rarely use it to prolong its life span) with MFW installed with a heap of apps on there waiting to die. So now you understand my hatred towards Sony. Po$fters wanted $250 to repair it.

Trade it in son as I said and put it towards another one OR ressurect it as I have and watch it slowly die as I am now .

No, you have to reflow the PS3 and get it back on it's feet. Then you can transfer your saves to a memory stick so you can use them on another PS3. Attaching the HDD to another PS3 will yield no results as the HDD is encrypted and can only be read by your PS3, no other.

Id advise you do a reflow, rescue the saves then move to a slim.

    LOL!

I feel your pain brother, I really do. I'm proper edgy when using my 60GB now. I use only games which don't require a disc in the drive for a limited time only. Homebrew I'm less sparing with, but still it kills me to know that it's slowly dieing with every breath it takes (metaphorically speaking )
