Im having a very annoying problem with my ps3, its a 40gb fat model. It detects HDMI, displays HDMI and sometimes it works just fine but now more often, it just drops signal. I dont mean just a black screen, it completely drops the signal. The problem first came back after I quit a disc game but now it drops signal whenever I start a game or application. I've tried the video reset, 3 different cables and an entirely different TV. All resulting in the same HDMI drop. A lot of the time I will have to turn the PS3 off for awhile and restart just to get it to display on XMB again. I know its not the tv becuase I've used my main PS3 on it through HDMI for over 4 years without a hitch. I've even swapped it into that input I used just to see if maybe my 2nd input was touchy. Composition and component work fine, it just constantly drops HDMI. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Try reinstalling your firmware. I had an issue with the video going black after showtime crashed on me before and would do just you described. Going into recovery mode and reinstalling the firmware fixed it for me. I think some file got corrupted. Hopefully it isnt you video crapping out

Thanks. I'll give that a try and post back with any results. What do you mean video crapping out? Gpu dying or solder joints?
