PS3 Video Output during setup, but no video (but sound!) when booting to XMB –
We've got a PS3 that will boot, and we can hear the boot sound, and sometimes see the very faint initial fade in of the XMB, but it freezes. When we do a hard reset and go through the initial setup, the video is fine, and we can even see the 1080p question screen. After the video freezes (but sound keeps going), it seems like the power button is unresponsive, requiring a hard power cut. Any ideas what to try?
this may sound crazy, but i wonder if the power supply could be surging the mobo. i really dont know tho, could just be a bad connection on the RSX, which i dont know why that would make the power button unresponsive.
I had that happen to me about 3 months ago. It was an early 80 gig model. I advise you to get your game saves off asap. Unfortunately for me I lost all of mine because the screen became unresponsive or frozen and had to be shutdown by the main power button. I sold it for 65 dollars a few weeks later. Good Luck!
Try pressing against the bottom of the rsx during boot.
