I had the same problem, eventually it will get worse and wont stay on for any amount of time. It will turn on then instantly turn off , I have done over 10 hours of research on this and have done everything under the sun to fix this ( I am a computer repair technician at a local shop) and have not been able to fix this issue :/, no one has yet. So if you figure something out you'll be the first!
Things that I have done (I have a PS3 SLIM)
-Reflowed GPU and CPU with a professional BGA rework station
-Changed out the PSU 4 separate times
-Checked for things that could be causing a short
-Through examination of the board for anything unusual
-Replaced the front power and eject board
-Re-balled the CPU and GPU
Interesting that you have done all that and still not been able to solve without being rude!
Well so basically I installed a new PSU slightly different amperage but oh well. I turned it off over an hour with a newly fitted PSU and then put old one in. Played wipeout hd for 30 secs or so and cut out. So then put new psu back in played game fine For an hour. Put old psu back in played game for 10 secs turned off again. Wanted to double check it wasnt a fluke. Soo. It seemed to be when the actual game loaded and graphics card was going to be working hard in a game it cut out. Almost like the graphics card draws loads of power. What I did hear was the fan sped up and was increasing in speed and then cut out at fan was gaining power.
Any thoughts on this or anything you want me to compare between psu's? Although 1 hour may not be a long enough test for the new PSU so will leave running in game for longer next time.
That is weird. My next test will be hooking up a 700W ATX PSU up to it and seeing if that helps. Like you were saying I think it has something to do with power. Try plugging it directly into a wall outlet with the new and old PSU and see what that does, also do the same for a power strip. So yours will actually stay on and display a menu?
I am really trying to solve this, it has happened to dozens of people on forums but they all lead to dead ends.
Yeah mine shows the menu and will start up. Just cuts out when u watch a bluray or play a game. It normally does some hard drive check on the next reboot as it cuts out and shuts down. File system check or something it said like windows does.
So what do you want me to try exactly?
My ps3 is plugged in a white surge protector multi socket for both tests.
I could try leaving in main menu for few hours and see it It goes off on the possibly faulty psu.
I just hope this is not a fluke and the mew psu has solved it lol.
I bought this ps3 as broken cheap to fix about a year later im trying again to solve.
Okay so yours is a little different than my problem.
Try plugging it directly into a wall outlet (not a surge protector) then throw in a movie and see if that helps.
It sounds like yours is a power issue. Are you in the U.S.?
Here is my video of the problem I am having (sorry for the spaces) h t t p : / / w w w . y o u t u b e . c o m / w a t c h ? v = S G m 2 - m b n x l 8
I have the same problem exactly... Did anyone find a solution?
Mine also shuts down... Model is CECH3001B... If I replace motherboard with CECH3001A will my Blu-ray work on that board?
