    [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=us_Or2HyPdU]YouTube - PS3 no disc spin[/ame]
    Has anyone seen anything like this? After replacing the old laser with the new bought laser the disc inside won't spin, just what you see in the vid. I put the old laser back in and it manages to read dvds again (but not blurays).

    Well good quality ps3 lasers are hard to get. Ive ordered many and 8 out of 10 either don't work period or fail within a few day/weeks. Mostly because new ones are hard to find most you order online are refurbs. My bet is you got a bad one. I have found the ones from divineo.com rarely are bad, and if they are bad they replace them(although there shipping is somewhat slow from time to time).

    Yea it seems you're right. I took a clear disk and turned the lights off and turned the ps3 on. The laser part itself is moving back and forth and raising the laser no problem: however the laser itself does not seem to turn as no colored light is emitted from it.

    Is there? I looked around on the piece but I didn't find any seeming points.

    PS3 lasers do not have an anti-static solder point, like most lasers normally do(Xbox lasers and such). So extra care is needed when installing or shipping them.

    How easy it to kill the laser? Would touching it with your finger do it?

    Another update. I took my old lense, looked at it from an angle and it seemed like there was something on the blu ray lense. Wiped it with a lint free cloth thing till it was gone, put it back into my ps3 and it's now reading blu rays fine and backing up my GOW3.

    It really goes to show you the tiniest thing can make something seem broken. Anyways yes handling the laser isn't the safest thing. Best to ground yourself on your pc case or like kitchen sink before you touch them. Or you could buy yourself an anti-static wristband. Glad to hear your old laser wasn't fubar though.
