PS3 Slim laser buying advice needed if poss please!
PS3 Slim laser buying advice needed if poss please! –

Hi again!
I am after a little advice regarding replacement lasers.
The laser in mine (kes-450a) is dead sadly after very little use. I think ripping games has killed it. Only ripped about 20 discs (in order to save the lazer ironically!)
I`m wondering what retailer you would recommend to buy one. I`m looking on eBlag and they seem reasonable prices (between £30 and £40). I`m wondering what the quality of these lazers might be like.
I do not think they are genuine brand new Sony lasers.
A few seem reconditioned or remanufactured. How do they remanufacture them?
I`m wondering what kind of quality I can expect and should I go for one type over another. ie Remanufactured or new from Hong Kong etc...
I don`t know! Or even a retailer who has them on the shelf maybe in the Derby/Nottingham/East Midlands area of the UK.
Any advice appreciated in advance. Tried searches and little comes up.
Thanks!

Hi,
I bought 2 KES-450A lasers from Hong Kong and they both did not work despite the sellers saying that they worked. I'm in the process of getting refunds from them.
It's a gamble to find a good laser.
Good luck.

Get one from a seller with a good feedback score. That way you can be reasonably confident of a good outcome if anything goes wrong

Any sellers in particular that I should buy from? They are all "high quality" till you have gave them your money!
Guess I`ll just take the plunge with a remanufactured one. Sony do not sell them brand new do they? At least not to the public...
Thanks for your replies gents

Cheers for the info!
Was thinking about taking the plunge with one of these. The 3 month warranty means more than anything.
Take a look at this link...
Sony PS3 Slim Blu-Ray DVD Drive (New KES-450A Laser) on eBay (end time 16-Feb-11 23:19:03 GMT)
Are these talking BS when they say they are refurb`d by Sony themselves?
Anyone had any experience with these recon drives? I`m wondering how they can be genuine Sony refurbs or have brand new Grade A OEM lasers in?
I wouldn`t have thought Sony would have sold recon drives to a third party.
Guess all this will teach me a lesson...Not to backup your own titles, instead download from ThePikeyBay where someone has already ripped for you.
I have even looked for the correct BRIR laser diode to refurb my own so I know it is done right, but they are like hens teeth.

Yes mate but they seem pricey to me. Sod it. Will try a new deck from junkBay.
Well aware of swapping over the boards.
One more thing... The grease that they use to lube the rails... Is it lithium grease? or can someone suggest what to use for lube?
Got silicone grease and Helerine oil but I don`t think they are suitable.
This is last question I promise! Cheers
