Ps3 rsod –
09-27-2010,05:49 AM
Hi all,
Recently got the dreaded RSOD (Red Screen of Death), Just wondering if any one has experienced this and if they were able to fix it without sending it to sony, I have tried various fixes and I am stumped...
I've done the following with no successs...
1) Zero filled HDD
2) Recovery Menu - Every option tested (nothing helpful)
3) Remove CMOS battery
4) Pulled apart cleaned, checked for burn marks
I dont think a reflow would be needed as everything is functioning, I am not sure whether my problem lies in the NAND, if the problem is in the NAND is there a way to flash it yet by means of jailbreak etc.
any help is much appreciated.

@soran
I was just talking to one of my mates, he's a Dev, He informed me that RichDevX is working on a Factory/Service mode payload for the ps3, So basically we will be able to rewrite the NAND.. I think we are saved..

did you get it after jailbreaking? maybe some sort of warning should be made...

@RIPPERD
The RSOD from what I can find on it, Usually happens after a bad firmware update which corrupt's the boot loading files in the NAND. Some people have been successful in fixing this but its a 9/10 chance you can fix it yourself without sending it to Sony.

Its speculated that the NAND that holds the encrypted firmware somehow is corrupted, or something releated to it, since the console boots enough to show the warning.

I got this a while back and tried to do the various stuff from the recoverymenu a couple of times but no luck. I read about some guy doing it about 20 times or so and finally it worked. Anyway, I didn't have the patience so I returned it to the place I bought it from who in turn sent it to Sony repairs. Took over a month to get it back, but I didn't have to pay anything at all.
Good luck to ya and let us know how things work out.

@jonnyjaeger
Yeah I've heard the same, I tried Restore File System 72 times before giving up. and what fun it was.

Wild guess: Nordisk Film was involved? :P
The problem with sending it back to Sony now, is that the chance you get it back again with firmware version 3.41 are probably less than marginal.
