    I have a PS3 40 GB - CECHG04
Yesterday, I've changed the drive's laser motor and made a general clean up inside.
After applying thermal compound Arctic Silver 5 and starting to close the console, I've decided to check the psu signals with a multimeter.

I've noticed that the PSU is giving 17V instead of 12V !!!
This is the probable reason for the ps3 heating so fast [around 10 min] and the fan spinning like a space shuttle.

I've not yet opened the psu, but does anyone have ant suggestion on how to re-calibrate the psu output levels (besides buying a new psu) ?

    Thanks a lot.

Nah. The PS3 is overheating most likely because you didnt remove the heatspreaders on the CPU/GPU and changed thepaste under them.
