ps3 with no blu ray drive
ps3 with no blu ray drive –
Ok so here is what I have. I have a ps3 that I got for free. The latch that holds the ribon cable from the blu ray drive is broken. I was a able to put in a custom firmware that doesn't check the drive. But now I can't run any of the back up managers. I have read here that it needs the drive pluged in. Is there a solution to this? Has anyone made something that can emulate the drive? Or should I just trash this ps3? Any help would be very helpful. Thanks in advance.
Thanks fuzzy. There is till no fix. I hope someone can fix this.

i had the same. i make myself somekind of latch, with 2 pieces of plastic cut from a plastic dvd spindle , one i have make thinner so it fits between the cable, and is the same length as the grey cable widht, i pushed the cable in and take that plastic about 2 cm by 1 cm, put it above the cable and pushed it in, i made is this big so it fits in the hole, then i take another piece of plastic about 3,5 cm by 0,8 cm, i put it on the other piece of plastic and pushed the both ends in the openings on both sides, ( maybe i make a movie of it , for now i am to happy it still holds ).
hope you can fix it to, if not read that other thread, we have made some modified firmware that doesnt check for a faulty bluray, but it will never run pkgs if you have a broken bluray.
if you have questions , ask me on the other thread, its easyer to keep everything together , i keep typing the same stuff, read a bit thru the posts please, you learn same as me.
thanks acergy, I did install that custom firmware you are talking about. But i do have a broken blu ray drive. So I can run any pkg's. Is there a fix to this?
Thanks for the info by the way.
I would keep the PS3, even if you can't get the CFW on there, at least for the parts. Hard drive, casing, or if you already have a PS3 and the Blu-Ray drive dies on it or something, you could just use the ribbon cable from your system in the other one (maybe that is all it really is), so no need to trash the PS3, I would like to get a machine or two myself to play around with like that
