Ps3 Laser problem –
I have a ps3 40gb with the following problem.I put the disk inside(dvd movie,ps3 game)the disk starts spin but i cannot see the movie or the game on the xmb.So i thought, maybe it's laser problem.I took my friend's ps3 laser(same ps3 model)and attached it to the faulty ps3.Same thing happens.I put back the drive to my friend's board and everything is fine.I then tried to disassembly my friends ps3 laser unit and took only the laser and put it in the faulty ps3.Same thing happens.Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!
Question. When you say your friend's PS3 is the same model, did you check the model number or are you assuming that any 40gb ps3 is the same?
Yes it's the same model cechg04.It is also the same laser kem-400aaa.In the past i have changed laser units without any problems. This thing is happening first time and i have 3 more ps3 same model with the same problem.
Same problem –
I have exactly the same problem, i replaced my friends laser it worked for a week. Then it wouldnt recognise discs anymore. I put the blu ray player in my ps3 and it worked. Also when he starts his ps3 it makes a really wierd noise i think its trying to eject something. I gues this is the motherboard...
I'm having the same issues with a new laser, and I got a DVD to read while tinkering with the drive, but it was a pain.. I booted up my PS3 without a disc in the drive, I then went over to the game tab and had Final Fantasy 7 highlighted (a game from PSN). Then I put a DVD in the drive and when the DVD went into the drive I started Final Fantasy 7.. Now mind you it only seems to work when you start FF7 around the same time the disc goes into the drive.. For me it sat at a black screen as if it had locked, then I heard the drive spin up, I quit FF7 and went to the video tab and there was the DVD-Icon, and it was able to fully read the DVD.. I couldn't get it to repeat for a game disc..
