PS3 Internal HD Compatibility List???
PS3 Internal HD Compatibility List??? –
Does any one know of an internal HD compatibility list for ps3 yet? or even a list of just the working ones without issues?
I am trying to find a fairly large HD for my ps3 so its a little trickier to find that right one. Any specific recommendations including model number would be helpful. I am considering either a 640 gb, 750 gb, or 1 TB hard drive.
I have been reading through some forums and I see a lot of people having issues playing backup games with certain HD's, especially the WD Blue Scorpio Blue series. It seems a few more people are having luck with some seagate models.
Please anyone who knows of a few that work well (preferably the large ones), post what you know, or if someone can point me in the right direction that would be great.
Thanks for your help
I dont think you understood the purpose of my post. This is useful as well but what I mean is a compatibility list for working internal hard drives for the PS3, not just working games.

Oh, sorry, didn't read that fully. You need a 2.5" SATA HDD that's 5400RPM and 9.5mm thick. Stay away from the WD Green and Black (I think it's the black, might be Blue) HDD's as they have timed spin downs which will cause stuttering. I know there was a thread about this recently that people were comparing which drives they'd got and how well they were working for them. Search the forums for internal HDD and it should be that hard to find.
So I ended up going for this one...

I ended up going for this model:
Seagate ST9750420AS Momentus Mobile Hard Drive - 750GB, 2.5", 7200RPM, 16MB, SATA
I found only a few reviews out there of people who used it but the ones I heard sounded positive. I will post my results once installed and tested.
For those interested in this model you can find it at Newegg.com or Compusa.com. I went with the latter since it was $10 bucks cheaper.

A few things to note:
1. Although I am still happy just having a larger HD you should note that PS3 OS space requirements automatically go up when you upgrade to a larger hard drive. Its pretty crazy. Expect to see around 620 free/ of 698 available on a stock 750 Gig hard drive. Im not just talking about the usual lower amount you see when you buy a hard drive. I know how that works, Im a computer geek. See my post and others on another site about this.

2. I used a jumper to force the HD to run in SATA1 mode. Pretty easy. I picked up a little plastic jumper from a local computer store for free.
I will re-post with results once I receive my dongle
Thanks for the update. I just ordered the drive today. I should get it early next week.
The jumper that you are referring to, is that a regular jumper that you'd find on a 3.5" HDD or is it a smaller sized jumper since it's a 2.5" drive?
Not sure about the slim ps3's, but here's a link I found where a 2 minute modification will allow you to fit the larger 12.5 mm thick hard drives such as 750gb + capacity in a Ps3 fat model.
