I was wondering if there was a PC program made to explore and extract files off of a PS3 HDD. The only reason I'm asking is that I want to pull off all of my data from my dead 60GB PS3's internal drive and place it on my 120GB drive. I have hours, if not, days worth of saves and other data that I want to copy before sending my system into Sony and potentially losing everything.

Use the backup option of the PS3 with an external HDD.

Well with my 60GB being dead, I can't really do that. Unless my slim will let me access the recovery console without forcing me to reformat before backing up.

Wait, what? No, no, no. My 60GB PS3 is YLOD. So I need to rip the data off the drive so I can put it onto my 120GB PS3. I was wondering if there was a PC program I could use to explore the contents of the 60GB HDD so I could back up what I needed and put it onto the 120GB HDD.

    [EDIT]
I forgot that the recovery console won't let you backup your HDD. Took out the 60GB and popped it in my 120GB and found out that way. So yeah, If anyone knows of a file explorer for the PC, let me know. Thanks in advance.

I'm pretty sure each PS3 HDD is encrypted with a unique encryption key. That's why we don't have access to the PS3 files until now. There's no way to get that encryption key right now and it doesn't matter since that PS3 is dead.

    The article said:
You wont be able to mirror a disk and copy your drive onto your friends PS3 as his Ps3 have an unique Serial asigned to it. It will fail.

@ Evi1d33d, of course, but if he wants to save his data when his ps3 is in repair or whatever, then it might be useful and once he got it back he could put it back in his ps3
of course it won't work if he tried to put it directly on another one.
But if i were him i'd keep that backup and maybe some day he will be able to transfer it,
if the PS3 is fully decrypted and we could whatever we want with it.

    just an idea...
