PS3 hard drive upgrade

OK, So I'm installing a new hard drive on my Slim Kameaw 120gb PS3(Described here: http://psx-scene.com/forums/f177/har...pgrage-105681/ (Hard Drive Upgrage)). After pulling the old drive out, and putting the new one in, the PS3 now is asking me to put 3.55 update on a usb stick and update. So, here's my question. Can I simply follow the directions and use official firmware? Or do I have to put the old drive in, update to 3.55, put the new drive in and proceed? I'd really like to avoid doing the latter, but I also want to avoid bricking my system.

Now I'm getting the same behavior when I put my old drive in. God damn it!

OK, everyone can relax. I just ahead and intstalled 3.55 OFW. After reading the message a few times, I understood that it was going to do a full system update. I was afraid that it was just going to update the firmware files that live on the hard drive and there would be trouble.
