ps3 hard drive questions?
ps3 hard drive questions? –
im still waiting 3 weeks later for my dongle to get here. But i would like to get my external hdd set up, with some games what format should the hdd be.and should it be partitioned? i have a 2tb wd external.
my second question is: ive recently read that alot of games will not play on a external hdd? so should i swap out my internal hdd? and if so up to what size do you recommend? ive heard im best to stay a little below 1tb? ive asked on other sites. And seems like no one wants to help much out there but i usually get good feedback here. any help i would appreciate.
Your external HDD should be formatted to FAT32 for it to work with the PS3. Some games don't work with external drives because they have files which are bigger than 4 Gb, and FAT32 can't handle files bigger than that. PS Jailbreak Compatibility List - Home there you can see if your game works on external. The size on the internal depends on how big your games are going to be and how many.
ahhh im in the same sort of situation looking to buy myself a new external HDD..
On the Wii there's a limit where you can only use a HDD that is 500GB or smaller is this the same case with the PS3? Is there a limit and what is it?
I would also like to purchase an internal in the near future.. Same question is there a limit and what is the limit?
Thanks for any help
actually on the wii you can put any size hdd but it has a 500 game limit per partition. and from what i have read there doesnt seem to be a limit other then how much space you have on your hdd
I have a question about this... I have a friend who has a 1 tb external drive, its formatted to fat32, and the ps3 sees it in every respect(movies, music, photo) but no manager(tried 4) will see it. Why? Reformatting is not an option as he already has almost 500gb of other data on the drive.

If your hard drive is FAT32.
It should work with the PS3
Thanks for your reply, so I guess the fix for my friend would be to add another fat32 partition for to the external drive. I'll have to look into how to do that for him. What I dont understand is why the existing fat32 partition is not seen in any backup manager. Its obviously formatted the right partition type, or the ps3 wouldnt see it at all(but it does). In the managers, its not just the games that dont show, they don't even see a usb connection. As I said the ps3 sees it in every other way.
