    Hey guys, I am not a professional with PS3's as I've only had mine for a month, because of the PS-groove.

    Anyway, I connected my PS3 Hard drive to my PC today, then the PC show the hard drive as Unallocated, so I said to myself self I should just put it back into the PS3 so I don't lose all my game backups (which I rented from the video store !!!) and my game saves and other files.

    After putting the hard drive back in the PS3 i got a message saying "The system software cannot be run correctly ..." and kept going on, so I put the 3.41 update files on my usb "X:\PS3\UPDATE\" and then restarted the PS3 and held 'START+SELECT' at the same time like it said in the error message.

    A second message which said "The system partition of the hard disk will be formatted .... blah blah .... If you format, you cannot go back to the previous version of the hard disk".

    So now I don't know what to do so I can get my data back, If anyone has any suggestions or recommendations and solutions PLEASE don't hesitate and help a brother out

    Thank you all in advance.

    well, since you admitted you backed up rentals, I doubt you'll find much help here. Piracy is a no-no.

    Too bad you don't own the games you backed up, this wouldn't have been a problem.

    Despite previous pathetic answers (bigots)
    You are basically screwed since u did format it,theres no way to access a ps3 hd partition on pc let alone recovering data of it...
    I'am sorry i may understand how u feel,but always backup saves they dont take that much on a sd memory.

    He's on about recovering his pirated games, not any of his saves.

    Also, OP, why don't you just use FTP for your transferring instead of taking out the actual hdd and plugging it into your PC with USB?

    I didn't format it, I got up to the stage to do so, but then i took the hard drive out, connected it to my PC, and run Linux and converted the partition to ext-something and then put it in the PS3 and it worked, thax for the tip though

    Whoa whoa whoa, waitaminute. You CLAIM that you converted the PS3 internal HDD to EXT then put it back inside the PS3 and it still WORKS!? Yeah, ok, if you say so. I hate to pull the internet card here, but;

    PICS OR IT DIDN'T HAPPEN.

    What makes you think Im gonna help anyone from this forum, when you fail to help others, I'm a pro and not a n00b like you, so eat my dust, and go figure it out by your self, one tip, the hard rive was not formatted, when i connected it to my win 7 it changed the boot manager or something, so Linux fixed the problem.
