    Hi everyone!

    I am going to buy a Ps3 Slim 120Gb 4th!

But my friend told me that a Ps3 Fat 80Gb 3rd is cooler.

    Is it true?

What I really want to know is witch one will easier to be YLOD or RLOD?

    Thanks

As far as i remember'd the fats can get the ylod and the slims do not so in the end it doesn't matter if the fat feels cooler then the slim the fat will die before a slim does.If i'm wrong someone correct me please.

if it's one of those 80gb with backwards compatibility, then yes, it's more useful than a slim. assuming you want backwards compatibility and you should, if you want a fat instead of a slim... but if you're not that much into ps2 games, i don't see the point in choosing a fat over a slim.

not to mention that not all ps2 games would work with it anyway. and no fat of this kind is new.

    but watch this:

you're wrong - on multiple points. first, a 2-usb port ps3 fat and the 1st gen slim are essentially the same hardware (practically the same cpu/gpu die size) EXCEPT the fat uses a LARGER heatsink & fan where the 1st gen slim uses shrunken sized fan & heatsink. if you've ever owned a 1st gen slim, you'll see that it gets pretty damn hot, probably hotter than 2nd gen fatties (1st gen fatties are still kings as far as heat creation though!). secondly, ps3 slims DO in fact ylod still - most notably the 1st gen slims.

I can second this. I hear any of them can ylod and the fat models got significantly less ylod prone over time. It was mostly the first few fat models that were getting ylod. A lot of it just comes down to care and maintenance. Myself and a lot others prefer fat because they downgraded the hardware quite a bit on the slims. It's all preference though
As far as I know, my ps3 has never had an undetected error.

The CECH-21xxA models should run the coolest, based on this info -
PlayStation 3 hardware - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (40/45nm process in slim vs 90/65nm in 80gb)

That said, slims are not immune to YLOD. Either way a fix + fan mod is less than $50 if you do it yourself, don't worry too much.

he said he had a 2-usb port, which would make it a 65/65, one step above the 1st gen slim (65/45). what i was referring to was the drastic change in hardware SIZE between a fat and a slim. while the latest gen slim does run a lot less power and SHOULD run the coolest, given it's limited size in heatsink, i'd still think the 2-usb port 80Gb fatty has potential to run with a slower fan speed...

    Thanks guys!

    I think I will buy a Ps3 Fat 80Gb 3rd due to it's cheaper than a Slim one(where i live)...

I google, and Youtube for it. And I see that the Ps3 Slim can get YLOD as well, so can't say anything first!

I've read many stories and I also can say since I have a CECE, that phats in a well ventilated area will almost never get YLOD. I'd get the BC model if you can.

i have a cecha (60gb movie box), cechg (my jailbroken), cechh (my everyday onlineable), and a cech20xx (1st gen slim) - i've taken ALL of them apart at one point or another just to give it a bi-annual dusting. i can arguably tell you that none of my ps3s have ever given the slightest indication of ylod/overheating and that for a FACT, my slim runs the hottest!

i remember when the ps3 first came out and some magazine did a "extreme" test because of all the hype the 360 was getting for failures. they subjected a cecha to both extremes - 24 hours in 110+deg sauna (while playing a game) and 24 hours in a -30deg icebox. the ps3 LIVED, only to have shutdown in the later hours of the COLD play, but once it thawed back out, it was playing again like normal. i agree with master737373 that a well ventilated fatty is a robust machine. the heatsink & fan combo for the original beast is way overkill and as long as you keep it happy it will NEVER ylod on you.
