I was planning on buying an external hard drive for my ps3. Is there any restrictions on what to get. Can I buy any?

Yes you can, the ps3 handles upto 1.5T FAT32 drives.
Some reported that even 2T worked, but you'd better stick to 1.5T max.
I have 3.55 Kmeaw CFw with a 640 western digital internal hdd(5400rpm) and a western digital 2TB element external, no problems!(ps3 slim originally 160gb)

go for 2, the price for a 1.5 to 2 is not that much of a difference, WORKS perfect, despite what others might say![]()
Are there any compatability issues (like there is with using externals for Wii)or any make/model/brand should work, even when using a internal desktop HDD in an enclosure.
i think for the most part all should wor,, i have an iomega 2TB, works just fine, others have different am sure, as long as you dont go over 2 TB your good.
