    hi guys!!
it seems my ps3 has trouble reading the free space on my external hdd? even though i still have for than 100GB+ worth of free space on my external, my PS3 tells me that i only have 9GB space left. how can i fix this??? i just deleted a lot of backup games on my external thru the PC. is there a program that would ensure that these files are deleted so that my ps3 can read it correctly?? thanks agai.

I'm having the same issue. I'm on a Slim 3.55 CFW and was trying to add a new game and saw I only had 9GB free space so I deleted over 20GB of movies and checked disk space but still said I had only 9GB of free space. So I deleted a couple of songs and it still says 9GB, no matter how much I delete it doesn't change. HELP PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!

Not to sound like a jerk, but since it's on your external have you tried emptying the recycle bin? That usually does the trick.

Oh my bad I meant for the original poster. The best thing to do for internal is delete the stuff the same way you put it on your drive in the first place. E.G. Delete files you FTPd with FTP. If that still isn't working I'd try rebuilding the database from recovery and the other option which is restore file system I think. Otherwise I don't know.

Wow rebuilding database just gave me a whole new list of problems, I don't recommend it. I might as well just format.

He's right. Delete the exact same way you added the game. Otherwise you may have these space issues. I recently tested this again by deleting a game on my external while connected to my pc that was originally added using Multiman. After doing that the game was gone but my space was not showing up via PC or PS3. Only option once your in this free space sh*tfest is to backup and reformat which is your call if its worth it to free up the space. Otherwise their is no way I know of to make the space show up.

I suggest to anyone having this issue to keep a list of how you added games so that you will remember how you should delete them if ever needed. Thats what I have started doing.
As far as I know, my ps3 has never had an undetected error.

Yes I really wish this and other recovery options would stop being peoples knee-jerk suggestion to fixing stuff. I too have messed up my HD before using peoples suggestions about recovery. Only when I did a file system restore it rendered my HD corrupt. So I lost everything, games, saves...

I am recovered from that now and everything is working, but it sucked major goat nuts!

RECOVERY MODE options should ALWAYS be LAST RESORT PEOPLE!!!

@chermi11, this is a known bug with most managers (eg MM). You can only try to prevent it by ensuring you delete something exactly the way you installed it (eg if you installed it with MM, delete it with MM). Also, it's a good idea to fix permissions before deleting anything. That said, some people misunderstand how much space is actually being used up because there are a lot more things on their HDD than they realise and calculating actual HDD capacity is not as straightforward as most people realise. If you are certain you should have more free space on your HDD - unfortunately - best you can really do is live with it or reformat your HDD.
