ive got e really problem mine controller won't charge, when i plug in mine ps3 controller thru usb i see for a nano sec thats its charging and then its changed in a minus "-" instead of a battery, and ow all mine leds in the controller are broke, i use 3.55 kmeaw on a 60 gb fat BC launch ps3, and yes i have a perfect in shape usb cable, so that isn't the problem, i think it has to do with cfw, vausse i didn't had any problems while using the ofw, is there a homebrew app for charging or a quick fix ? pls i can't play mine games nomore,
sorry for the bad english i am dutch

Ok lets start by saying that your FW type (CFW or OFW) has absolutely nothing to do with your controllers charging. If you turn off your PS3 and connect your controller to a PC usb port it will charge... yes that's right with your PS3 OFF. so as you see FW has nothing to do with controllers charging. So please don't start blaming. As you mentioned you have a Lunch PS3 60GB released on (November 17, 2006) rechargeable batteries last about 5-6 years and then they become useless. I would say its your batteries, time to take that controller a part and replace the battery or buy a new controller.
    Hope that helps

i had a similar problem...plugged controller in and it wouldnt turn on, lights werent working, it was literally a paper weight...before throwing it out i took it apart and found that the battery was loose (not sure how because it had been working for a long time)...plugged the battery back in and tried again but it still wasnt working. as a last attempt instead of using a usb port to charge it i used a mobile phone charger that fit into the controller...left it charging over night (maybe 5 to 6 hours) and it was working again...

the launch ps3 controller is a non dualshock, and it's wrecked, so ive got a dualschock 3 and its only 2a3 years old, sorry for this info, and i don't think its the battery, i have mine second battery of the first controller non dualschock, so maybe i can switch them to see if its the battery or something on the pcb, i clean the controller every 2 months,

Well Battery or not its not the CFW for sure take it a part and if you have a volt meter measure the voltage to see if the battery is deteriorating. Looks like the PS3 controller battery should be close to 3.7V fully charged. and if you determine you need a new one you can probably get a cheap one here

Belive or not, try different lenghts of usb cables.
Last weekend, I didn't find my original cable, so I used other cable, same lenght, but a little thin and I got the same problem! I could play games, even without charging it!
I tried a cable with dual connector (used in external hdd without power source) and worked!
I tried with a smaller cable and worked too.

it could very well be the cable itself, if you plug it in a PC USB port and it starts charging, it could be the USB port on the PS3, try plugging the controller into another USB port on the PS3. Boot into recovery mode and see if it responds, I am not sure if that will make any difference but it seems to be a "low-level" program that boots before FW? I dunno, just a suggestion….
