i have a 80gb console thats been given to me by a friend which is in a state when i got it

    heres the lowdown

it was stuck in a update cycle (brick-ish) get to 40% and throw out an error that was that

well iv sorted that got the original hdd back in with 3.41 on it

no the wifi board is shot so the blutooth lan and wifi wont work

what i want to know is is this causing the console to throw an error during a system update from a usb stick?

so i have the ps3 managed to get her up and running again but if i try update to latest fw it goes back to where it was b4 error and constant update cycle

could this be down to the knackered wifi board?

gary your input would be appreciated here cheers bud

Yep, if you know the wifi board is bad, then that's exactly why it won't finish the update. The PS3 checks it's hardware components for a connection as part of the update process. If at any time the PS3 detects an issue/fault, it will halt the firmware at a certain percentage. Ex. Wifi board/bluetooth - 40%, Blu-ray missing/bad - 68% or so, etc.

I believe it's just a daughter board with a couple of harnesses plugging into it. You can find the PS3 service manuals online (I saw someone post them here today) that will give you full information of how to replace it.
