    ime not really sure.

here is what i did from the start

ps3 was working fine on 3.30 everything working. so i then wanted to install kmeaw 3.55CFW (ive done it many times on diffrent ps3's) but i missed out 1 step

i tried updating in the recovery menu to 3.55CFW (stupid i know) but it failed ay 69% and then thew ps3 did not boot at all (it was stuck in boot loop)

so i took out the hard drive and formatted it (the long format not the quick)
i then went back into recovery menu and restored the ps3 (option #5)

it then restarted and did all all the first setup settings. it was then working again on 3.30 booted up fine

so then i put 3.55 OFW on a usb stick (i also checked the MD5 and it matched) and i tried installing it via XMB update. it got to about 78% and failed!! and it got stuck in a boot loop again.

so i took out the hard drive and formatted it AGAIN (long format) and now i cannot get it to do anything. it still gets into the recovery menu but when i look for an update it just says CHECKING and then about 10-15mins later it gives me an error (not finding and update) even tho it was on a usb

so now ime stuck what to do and ive been messing with it for the last day or so. Any help will be great

if you need any more info just ask

    EDIT 2:

    ok can someone confirm this..

    1.
    3.55 Downgrade Files
Multiupload.com - upload your files to multiple file hosting sites!

    2.
Unplug or switch off your console and then switch back on or plug back in.

    3.
While still OFF connect your Jailbreak/Downgrade device and press POWER then quickly Eject, you PS3 console should turn itself off automatically
(WHICH ONE DO I DOWNLOAD AND INSTALL TO MY XPLAIN BOARD?)

    Taken from
    Code:
    http://psjailbreak.co.cc/1155-2
    4.
Place the lv2diag.self (FILE 1) from the archive and the PS3UPDAT.PUP (3.41 FW) from the archive on the root of a usb device and plug into the rightmost port on your console (dev_usb0)
(BUT INSTEAD OF 3.41 CAN I CHANGE IT TO 3.15?, AS IME ON 3.30)

    5.
Power on your PS3 with the usb device in and have a coffee, it can take a few moments for the PUP to install, your PS3 will turn off automatically

    6.
Power your ps3 back on, you should still be in service mode, check your FW version now to verify you have downgraded successfully. Turn Off

    7.
Remove previous archive files from usb stick and now place lv2diag.self (FILE 2) on the root of your usb stick

    8.
Place usb stick in rightmost port of your PS3 (dev_usb0)

    9.
Turn PS3 back on with usb in place, it should turn itself off very shortly after.

    10.
Turn your PS3 back on and go through the configuration again.

    WILL THEME STEPS WORK?

    search for 'service mode'

you need to flash two hex codes to your Xplain board, one to get in and one to get out of service mode

make sure you read up well on the process as it can be tricky and you can get stuck in service mode if you don't do it right.

sometimes just getting in and out of service mode fixes the type of problem you describe..

    Here you go:

    service-mode-downgrading-3-55

I don't think it matters that the only thing you can do atm is get into recovery mode.

Actually, what you might try before attempting the downgrade is rebuilding the database from the recovery menu.

    That's a lot less risky.

And as I said before do A LOT of research!

    Again, Good Luck!

First, try another hdd. The fact that you were able to fix it twice with a format makes me think you may have some hdd corruption. Also, was your bluray drive functioning appropriately before starting this? Have you been having any hardware failing issues? When an update stops partway through it generally means a component isn't functioning correctly.

@chris9191, do as Chesh suggests, my further research indicates that your being caught in service mode may be high if you don't know exactly what's going on before trying..

In fact, in another post Mistawes suggests the following, which sounds like it might offer a solution:

Usually, they get stuck in the update loop because some hardware is faulty or a loose connection. If you've had your PS3 open before, you mightn't have plugged something back in correctly (BR drive cables etc). Although if you've never opened it, it's unlikely.

Try choosing option #4 in recovery mode, to rebuild the system files after inserting a freshly formatted NTFS hard drive.
He also suggests trying lots of different usb sticks. This might not sound feasible but I know that hacking a PS2 kingston usb sticks are notorious for causing problems whilst sandisk ones are fine. Also make sure the usb stick is formatted to FAT - use 3rd party software to do this if you're not sure your pc can do it properly.
