    Hi,

I hope someone here can help me, as this problem I am having is driving me mad!

I have a 40gb PS3, with drive model of 410AOA (i think, not at hand to check) it is the one without the sensor on the top and pink cog.

Anyway, I opened the drive up to replace the laser, then realised I had the wrong one, so closed it back up without touching or removing anything in the drive.

Problem is it now seems that the mechanism has stopped working, when a disk is inserted, it takes it in, but seems to run the motor longer than usual, and does not spin up the disc. I think this is down the the sliders at the side not moving to raise the deck to the disc. Also it seems that the "pincers" on the lid that remove the magnetic spindle dont open correctly.

I have tried to work out what needs to be done with no avail, and all guides seem to be aimed at the older drive model.

Where does that metal "boomerang" arm need to be hooked onto, as it seems to only be locked into the right arm, not the one that connects to cogs? I seem to think this may be one reason?

    Any help would be great!

    Thanks

Are you able to insert & eject the disk fine? If not you may need to realign the drive

The disc does insert and eject smoothly. but ive noticed 2 things.
The long black part on the right side of the drive which raises the laser deck does not automatically move up
And the long black part on the left does not automatically move down, which it should
I think these are the problem

Looking down at the open drive with the disk slot facing you move the left black piece so that the teeth of the black gear and the left black piece connect and you are able to move the black piece up & down which then moves the gears as they should. Let me know how it goes.

    Mine has this same problem.

Does anybody know of a dissasembly guide for reference (410ACA)? Two white gears fell out of this one (it was given to me broke and had been previously opened) and I have no idea where they came from.

    Thanks.

I have gotten my hands on a fully working kes410 drive, and noticed something.
When i push the right hear which raises the deck, its still stuck, and if pushed hard enough, it goes up and also moves the gear on the left down together. My faulty drive does not do this. Ill have a little play around and maybe upload some pics.

For those of you having this same problem, i have found how to fix it after some looking around

To fix it, you have to open up the drive far enough so you can see the logic board.
You then unscrew the skinny silver plate which connects the left and right gears.
In the left and right gears, there are holes, and you have to make the holes in the plate line up, then screw it back.

Once done, the left and right gears are supposed to be stuck solid, as they only move together when the motor spins when a disc is inserted.

Ill try and up some pics later maybe
    Good luck
