I have a 80g 4 USB port, Model CECHE01. The Blue Ray is KEM-400AAA. It stopped playing all disks. When the disk is put in it does not spin, the laser turns red for about 3 seconds and goes off. I have replaced the deck and spindle with no results. Do you think if i buy a new laser this will solve the problem? or does this sound like something else? Help!

no spinning on disc
laser turn on and red laser turn on for like 3 second
laser head move up and down 3-5 times
is that what ur getting? thats what im getting...as soon as i get it fix i will tell you what is wrong. im thinking it may be our IC chip on the blue ray drive. either we need a replaceement or resolder a new chip

Sounds like a dead Blu Ray laser as it did not light up blue.
Good luck.

Yup, defo your lasers.. Upto yourselves if ya wanna get a replacement or get by without it.
I reccomend buying a YLOD or just a BR drive if you can find a good deal on one, because the refurbs etc off Ebay aren't reliable enough to justify the slight saving. Even though Sony's aren't great, they are the best to invest in. You get tonnes of spare parts that way too or even just one for discless games + homebrew if ya fix the YLOD.

I have the exact same model. Did you only get this right after updating the firmware to 3.55? It would be weird to have so many coincidences.

My PS3 does the same thing, only thing is that I have already replaced the laser. It worked one time and then it stopped. I might have got a faulty laser but what are the chances. I am beginning to think its the board and not the laser

Thanks for all the feed back, but the problem gets more complicated.. I installed a "new" blue ray laser on the new deck and spindle, the white spring clip attached to the laser strips out along the brass pole when a disc in inserted and the laser trys to move.
I replaced the white clip, same problem.
I re-installed the old deck with the new laser the laser flashes red three time.
Now the white clip catches just fine, but the disc does not move and is exactly the same as when i started.
Can the blinking red light be something besides a faulty laser? Or did i just buy a faulty laser?
Dojomann- I dont remember if it started after the update, sorry.
