I've got a CECHG03 PS3 that I decided I was going to try and fix today. It had the "no video" problem, which I managed to fix with a reflow. The PS3 now boots to the XMB with no problems.

However, there is an issue with the Blu-Ray drive. I put Resistance 2 in it as a test, and this is what happens:

    1) Drive takes the disc.
    2) The blue light on the front of the PS3 does nothing.
    3) The clock on the PS3 doesn't spin.
    4) No game listed on the XMB.
    5) Upon pressing Eject, the drive won't spit the disc out!

Now, to me, this sounds like something more serious than a dead laser... but I wanted other opinions t osee if anyone had any ideas. ATM I'm guessing bad blu-ray board, in which case I'm probably screwed and I'll just sell it as faulty... could be good for someone who want's a JB/CFW system (It's running FW3.21).

Fiddled around with it a little more, took the shell off the drive so I can try to see what's going on.

    1) The laser doesn't move at all.
    2) The disc does spin, which seems to be a good sign. It at least knows it's there.
    3) No blue light on the PS3 still.
    4) Pressing eject gives the 3 beeps like there isn't a disc in the PS3.

Interestingly, it seems to be using a KEM-410A drive, rather than the KES-400A that the other two CECHG model PS3's I've opened up both have.

Mayb the little sensor on top of the drive that checks there is actually a DVD in. Then again I think just pushing it in manually gets over that problem?

This drive doesn't have one of those... which seems really odd.

Was the warranty sticker intact? Maybe a noob has swapped the drive/board ie the logic board ain`t paired up to the motherboard.

Would explain the clock not spinning... Or try a reflow of the logic board. Blast it with a 300 degree heatgun for 5 min

    Or maybe not...

Nope, the warranty sticker wasn't intact.

Looked like someone had tried to reflow the motherboard before and did a crappy job. I was wondering if someone might've swapped the logic board and drive, but some research has pointed out that later CECHG consoles did use the KEM-401.

I tried putting a different logic board and blu-ray drive in the PS3 and it just made the machine gun sound at me.

Check this vid out. He mentions about the machine gun sound. I used this on one of my drives and I managed to sort it. Just pay close attention to his instruction.
