PS2 controllers cannot work with the PS3, atleast not now anyway.
Search google about how to install Linux on the PS3.
You cannot upgrade the ram in the PS3, it is not a PC.
The CPU has its own 256MB RAM pool for the system, code ect. The RSX has its own 256MB RAM pool that is used for textures, models and anything else to do with graphics.
it's 512MB RAM in total that the system can use, no doubt there are probably ways to get around the seperation to allow the system CPU more ram but really the RAM that the PS3 uses is much faster than your normal PC use DDR2, its XDR from memory.
You can hook up the PS3 to a normal TV, it uses the same AV cables that the PS2 uses so yes it goes up to component.
All PS3 games are high resolution games and they do scale down to 480i/480p for normal TV's.
"If i attach a rod to it can you vacume the rug with the PS3?"
You're funny, in all seriousness no.
