    Hi

    I have a 40Gb ps3 (CECHG04) with problems.

    HISTORY:
The ps3 just run fine with the 2.70 firmware.

i had a problem with the bluray drive, so i removed the drive to repair... and i lost the drive... but the ps3 works in this time.

the problem came when i tried to update to 3.41.

it stops on 70% and then i restart the ps3 and the ps3 try to install again, with the same error (i think is the 8002F14E)

then i read somehere that itīs possible to recover the system by removing the HDD drive and format the drive on PC in FAT32.

I made this process, but now nothing happens, the ps3 turn on (gree led) and after 20 sec turn off.

I can ativate the service menu but i tried all options witout results...

What i have to do to fix, i don't mind to keep the 2.70 firmware (it's good for linux)..

    Help please

maybe if you update to 3.42 via the recovery/service menu.. it might just fix it.. but no psjailbreak for you..

You need a blu-ray drive, once you connect it, it will finish the update.

Read my Sticky on "un-bricking" PS3's for more info:

    http://psx-scene.com/forums/showthread.php?t=64094 (UN-BRICK'ing your PS3 system!)

If you don't have one, maybe you can borrow one from a friend?

No matter what, the other way is to connect any blu-ray drive board, does not have to be your original one, and the update will finish!

I wouldn't be worried. You only see people's bad stuff posted online, there's no reason for people to post "hey I updated to 3.42 today with no issues" while there are some problems with the PS3 it is nowhere nearly as bad as the 360. I have three friends that got 360's at launch and none of them had any issues with theirs at all.

As far as the update loop goes, it has to be complete to get the update to work. It's trying to write part of the update to the bluray drive, since the bluray is not there it cannot complete.

Sorry, but your system is SOL if you can't find the bluray drive. How do you lose an entire bluray drive?

What do you mean with SOL?? Are you saying that i will never get a bluray working? even if i buy a complete drive?

I tried the remove the battery CMOS, for about 8 hours, but the system goes looping with the update.

So my only hope is to find a bluray drive and put it to complete the update (can it be any bluray drive? or only the 40GB one).

And after that can i use the blue ray for movies and games?

Im having the same exact problem, and i found the bluray controller board,
but that one seems dead so i've no idea what to do...
i tried a couple of other bluray drives but it won't let me finish that update
it always stops @ 60-70% and with that same error code: 8002F14E...

I took off CMOS, did the format of hdd swapped hdd's etc... still same stuff.

Im gonna try one bluray drive with controller that i know it's workin' well, and if it's not workin' then i dunno.... i'll give up and maybe wait untill that damnn ps3 is fully unlocked
by ps3 hackers, crackers or whatever pirates lol !

Btw that one is on FW 2.60 and i was trying to update to 2.70 and so on... untill 3.41

edit: to be specific it fails @ 61% of the update.

Are you positive it doesn't have to be the original?

I thought it did but I could easily be mistaken.
