Hi there. I have two parts ps3's: one with a bad psu and bluray, and one that needs reballing.

the two logic boards are near identical : BMD-001 1-871-575-14 and BMD-001 1-871-575-34.

after putting a working psu from a third ps3 into the first unit, I flashed it to kmeaw 3.55, and althought the disk tray did not work, the bd showed up in the menu. <disc sensor had a broken cable, and the tray was jammed making a horrid sound.

so i picked up the second ps3, and pulled the bd drive, put the old logic board on the new drive and put it ps3 1. it ejects disks and reads them, and shows the spinning clock, but does not display the disk icon at any time.

It was my understanding you could swap same logic boards without remarrying ? and clearly both logic boards work, in their own drives..

does the second set of numbers distinguish a build difference between the two boards ?

*edit* I have a third parts ps3, also backwards compat <all three are> but it has a different dvd revision and board altogether, for example the insert sensor is not visible atop the inner tray housing. I think maybe I will try marrying drive to my board using factory service mode tool and the remarry 3.30 tut ?

well you could try to remarry a different one to it and see if it makes a difference... put the original in there and enter fsm with this tool...
    fsm.pkg

    then marry a different board...
