prevent psn banning [idea]

im thinking about this little program that fake's the MAC address of your machine
that may prevent banning in the future, i believe every time u get banned
u change the MAC address over and over

what do you think

so maybe some dev will implement some app for that idea before we start to get banned

No, MAC addresses aren't routed to the internet. Your console ID is what Sony uses to identify your console which is a mixture of different serial #'s in your PS3 hashed to create it.

ps i think the mac address is part of the mixture, so by faking it, it will change the mixture somehow !!

As of right now, nope. I know that marcan, bushing, mathieulh, and others have been looking at how this ID is generated, but I'm not sure if they've figured it out fully yet.

I kind hope they don't. Last thing we need is a generator getting non-Jailbreakers banned. That would be one hell of a %*#$ storm.

I'd think a better method would simply be something that would keep flags from being thrown up. Some homebrew that would intercept and block anything leaving the system that would get the console banned.

Then again, I seriously doubt Sony will ban anyone for using CFW. They know that the majority of people doing it aren't cheaters nor will they cause trouble on the PSN. In fact a large group of new semi-technical users might make the PSN better. Those people would be more patient and probably understand the mechanics of the game. EQEmu tends to be more laid back than Live EQ since everyone knows the basics of how it works. They're also far less likly to bitch about class balance and usually vote on big changes that aren't Live Like.

While there are whiners using CFW, I think the PSN will benefit from the flood of technically inclined people. That is, if people will stop patching the UPDATE.PUP for those who can't do it. That should be a right of passage.

I agree! i think piracy should be attacked by the game manufacturers and not banning people from psn. EA are doing that online pass thing, i think its better that all game manufacturers implement that rather than sony banning people.

that may be true, but if i can request logs over the internet from my router it would be even easier for sony to request data from a ps3 to log the mac

its not if they are routed over the net, its a piece of data that can be requested from the host over their network.if the information is displayed on my tv rather than look on the hardware for a sticker then that information can be seen or sent somewhere
