Playstation 3 CECHA01 Help

Hey everyone,

I'm new here to the forums. I'm not sure if this is the right forum to be posting this in so if it isn't please feel free to move it to the appropriate forum.

Anyways, I started doing repairs on Playstation 3's about a year or so ago. However, I got very busy with a new job and school and have fallen behind a bit. I primarily only fix YLOD systems. I don't use a heat gun. I have a Reflow/Reball station. However, while I have the equipment needed for Reballing (Stencils, balls, solder, etc, etc), I don't quite have the skills to do it yet just simply been doing Reflows.

Anyways, I've got a Playstation 3 CECHA01 a friend just gave to me. Although, it isn't a YLOD situation. When the back switch is on and the red stand-by light comes on. When I go to turn it on, the green light comes on, than immediately turns off again to red. The fan doesn't turn on at all either. No blinking red light or anything.

I was wondering, from some of you experts out there, what this might indicate? Is it a power supply problem? Hard Drive problem? Hardware problem? Broken fan?

I'd at least like to attempt to fix it since it is a Backwards Compatible unit. The warranty seal is already been removed. My friend bought it, off Craigslist, probably seller refurbished or something not entirely sure but he just told me that is how he got it.

If I can't get it fixed, I'll probably just eBay it and someone can use it for parts or someone with more skill and time could fix it.

Anyways,

I'd really appreciate any help or advice someone could give me on the possible problems. I haven't taken it apart yet myself, just thought I'd see if anyone had any guesses what the problem could be?

This case looks like Waninkoko brick. Anyway, you should try to mess around with hardware flasher, e.g. Progkeet (it's capable of working with NAND just fine). RLOD is caused when syscon fails to verify something and turns mobo off. So, give it a try.

a solid red light wouldn't be a wanko brick...it flashes (learned from experience)...i would try and see if u could hold the power button in and see if u can boot it into restore mode and post if that works...if not check all ribbon connections to make sure there in all the way and tight then try again...last thing is i would try putting it into service mode (requires some kind of original jb dongle (not the new ones) like a blackcatusb or ipod, (theres more i just can't remember the many there was))

Most android phones or that special calculator. I actually ran into a app that does it for you right off the android.
Wouldnt a minumus atb board work as well.
Sounds like my old fatty. Was using rebug dev. Cfw and using the game save feature and shut off and never turned back on. Tried all tricks. Of course i misplaced the board at the time.

I have the same model PS3 and it had RLOD, had it reballed and fan mod done and it works perfectly now.

I also had another PS3 that would was RLoD , and same Reballing fixed it as well.

Just throwing this out there but i would at least try a different power supply first. My CFW A01 did this exact same thing a couple of days ago and it was the power supply. Swapped it out and booted right up again. If that doesn't do it, I'd start checking fuses.

On the flip side, I just bought another A01 today with YLOD. It too was a power supply failure. This thing was so dirty inside it was scary. I got lucky on this one though.

I have another quick question for some of you experts out there. I bought two PS3s that still had the warranty label intact and all. They are both CECHG01 models. Both of them turn on totally fine. The BluRay drives aren't reading discs or at least that was the stated problem. I have some drives lying around. I know not all drives are compatible with all boards but (sorry I know I should know this) but does the drive have to be from another CECHG01? Because I've tried a couple drives, one I'm pretty sure was working properly (but came out of a CECH-H01) and no success. I tried different ribbon cables checked the gold strips to make sure none were broken but still nothing. I'm thinking this is a hardware issue? Any advice there?

I actually own a Reballing Repair Service. If you look on my page you can see my thread there for it. About the flashing red light right after you turn it on is a hardware issue. If it was the YLOD it would start for a second then shut down. You should try looking for where the hardware issue might be. The Drive questions you will need to have the same type model drive to put in the ps3. You will also have to switch out the drive boards that are on the inside of the drive so that the Ps3 and the drive sync together. Hope this helped!
