I have a backwards compatible PS3, CECHE01. I'm not sure if it's just mine or all of the backwards compatible PS3's. But mine seems to get extremely hot on the right side where the vents on the bottom are and it's whisper quiet at first but like 10-15 mins later the fan is a little louder. 20-30 mins after it has been on the fan is extremely loud and isn't blowing very much heat while the vents on the right you can feel nothing but heat.

What could be the problem? New thermal paste? Or what?

pretty sure its clogged up with dust since its an 2nd gen i assume its well aged......i would recommend you open it up change the thermal paste to AS5 and use a can of compressed air while the fan is out to blow out the dust in order to prolong your ps3s life before it gets YLOD and other damages...........
