No power for Phat PS3
I have a CECHA01 Model 60GB PS3 that is not working for some reason. Here is what happend:
Last night was watching a DVD+R Video. After , I ejected the Disk, scrolled quick to the User part of the XMB to power off the Unit when it froze with only the Clock (upper Right corner) spinning. After about a minute, I hit the switch turning it off.
Now, a Hour ago, I wanted to run it, I turned it on, Red light was present, hit the Power button, and it was Green. Then after close to a Minute it turned off.
I tried seeing if it was the plug but it still wont turn on. There is no Red, Green, Blue or Yellow light on at all. Nothing. Is it the Fuse, the cable, or what? Please help.
sounds like a powersupply went out....
Yup, sounds like a dead PSU, but before jumping to conclusions I would check the fuse on the mains cable, even try a different cable, then open up the PSU and check the internal fuses, if all checks out fine, then something in the PSU itself has failed, so time for a new one.
Not expensive though. You can get one off eBay over here for less than £10 delivered.
OK. Opened up my PS3 yesterday and pulled the Power Supply. Didnt smell anything burnt and everything looked cood. Will post a pict of something though. One part looked like it was melted or something. When removing the cover for the PSU, it is a orange/yellow piece and part of the plastic is going from it to another part.
But I did order one yesterday just in case so looks like I made a good choice on that.
Edit: Here is the pictures of what I am talking about for the PSU:

The first picture has the Melting piece I am wondering about.
the same happened to me....
just try changing the ps3 cable with the pc's cable cuz its the same...
probably a high voltage was the prblm
Actually, I have a Nyko Fan attachment for it

This still works and has no problems. That is the only thing that still works. Even with it removed though, the PS3 still wont come on.
