New HDD. Error Loop?
Okay, So here's the problem:
My PS3 80GB Phat over the past year or so, has been having issues installing games (getting to about 70% then the HDD makes clicking noises, and the PS3 stalls.) And has generally been running slow, refusing to install game data etc.
So, after buying a slim I forgot all about it, but then recently put the phat to 3.55 kmeaw and now have my slim on 3.60 to have PSN (Now it's back.)
My problem then was that when backing up my games it would take almost 6 hours, and even then would have to install game data, and sometimes the install would get to 70% then crash out on me. it wasn't eventful. So eventually I took apart my old netbook and removed it's 120GB HDD. Now it's compatible, I can see that, it should work. I took it out, put my PS3 back to OFW 3.55.
When booting the console for the first time, I tried a USB stick with the directory X:\PS3\UPDATE\PS3UPDAT.PUP (This is the same one I used to put the ps3 back to ofw, so i know it works.)
It then starts saying :
Preparing to update..
Do not turn off the system, when the preperation has completed the ps3 will reboot automatically.
However, this percentage gets to about 95% then it bugs out and says
No applicable update data found.
I don't get it? I've tried various times with different USB sticks (FAT32) and it just refuses to work, I even tried a DVD-R with the same result. The HDD is blank with the full partition set to NTFS.
What could be the problem? Help would be appreciated.
Have you got another sata drive you can try?
