Hey guys I am new here but have been surfing the site for sometime now and finally registered. Anyways here is my problem as well as many other people, I have installed a new hard drive in my PS3 which was running 3.56v1 and my original hard drive crashed. When I installed the new hard drive and entered recovery mode it asks for the update which I have on my USB flash drive in the proper folder structure. It keeps telling me that the data is corrupted and from what I have read only 3.56v2 is now available. What can I do to fix this because right now I have a nice black paper weight on my hands with 50 plus blu rays and no way to watch them. I am open to any solutions you guys have thanks in advance!!!! I have a Slim model btw.

That site has all the firmwares, including 3.56v1. If that's the one you have on your PS3 before upgrading, then download it.

As for your thumbdrive, make sure your folder stucture is like this: x:\PS3\UPDATE the firmware update (PS3UPDAT.PUP) goes in the UPDATE folder. Capitalization is a must. Also, make sure your thumbdrive isn't one of those annoying ones w/ U3 installed on it. If it is, either remove the U3 software or get another thumbdrive.

Edit: See here for more information: http://us.playstation.com/support/sy...date/index.htm

Sorry, didn't realize v1 wasn't there. Will it not accept v2 after you checked your folder structure, etc?

Edit: Dunno if you're in the US, but here's another set of firmwares I found: http://www.ps3news.com/forums/downloads.php?do=cat&id=8

They require either a premium membership or dumb little rules on being able to access the downloads. Some has to have the original 3.56 and not the "fixed" one, over on thee official forums there are thousands of people with this same issue and Sony wants people to send in the console and pay $150 to get it repaired. So it seems that they have decided to removed the option to upgrade hard drives as well. This is the last time I buy from Sony... Screwing over the honest people and that really sucks.

I just signed up for an account to check. It seems that you need 2 quality posts on their forums to download the file. You can do that, or you can search Google for an alternate download location. Sorry bud, but those are your options.
