Need help removing multiple saved games in XMB. Mostly "ghost files".
I need help removing multiple saved files in the XMB menu.
After I did a restore on my PS3 it failed at 98% it then went on to rebuild the database and restart. I was left with some corrupted files (which I remove) and hundreds of these 'ghost files' In the 'Saved Data' area of the XMB (NOT the 'Game Data' area).
I use the term ghost file because it is a clear PlayStation icon with an X, O, Triangle, and Square that have no link to an actual file inside of the "hdd0/home/XXXXXXXXXXXX/savedata" directory (the corrupted ones did). I believe they are just XML entries in the flash/vsh/explorer/XMB tied to files that are not there anymore. Regardless, I cannot find out how to remove the entries other than painstakingly doing it one at a time.
I have looked everywhere on how to possibly go about doing this and have not come up with anything that would not harm my PS3. I tried finding the entries myself inside the flash folder with dev_blind, but no luck. Even If I found them I would not feel safe removing them. I don't know enough about edit those files to attempt it with out a proper tutorial for this particular job. I have seen how to remove some unwanted icons, but this is a bit different.
I didn't know if there was a home brew application out there specifically for editing the XMB and could solve my problem. I know there are XMB editors, but from reading the descriptions they wouldn't help much. I may have overlooked some small detail and they could very well help. That is why I am turning to the forums and reaching out. The post I made a few hours ago was a little to vague in the title and I kind of went off topic a bit in the thread. So In this one I am sticking to the main point;
"How do you remove multiple saves from the 'Save Data Utility'?"
"Is there an XMB Editor or other Home Brew Application that can remove multiple save entries in the XMB?"
I have tried the option in the recovery menu that fixes hard drive errors, but it does not seem to work with drives bigger than 420 GB or 500 GB (I forget which it is, eithe way mine is a 750 Gb). I tried that a year or so back after I had the drive for a bit and it just errors out a little over half way through and asks you to format your drive, (it completely ruined my setup, but lucky I had a back up). And yes the drive is perfectly fine, I went over it with a fine tooth comb, there is no a single corrupted sector and it's in the 99 percentile for health. I have also tried a restore, but that just restores the 'ghost files'.
I have seen this post on google many times in one way or another and not a single solution or a shred of helpful advice. They just say to remove them one at a time. That wouldn't be a problem if I had a few dozen but I have over 500 saves that need to be removed. I know you God of War, Bioshock, and Skyrim fans know what I am talking about.
I digress, If anyone has any helpful information please let me know.
Thanks in advance,
