I know you're supposed to be able to delete foreign language files from PS3 games that you don't need to free up space but I've got a few questions before I screw something up
1. Can you do it before installing game data (Example: First launch of game)
2. Are there any known games that you shouldn't delete the files
3. After deleting the files, would the game still be usable if transferred to a different console
4. I've noticed some games are English (US) but have an option to use Japanese audio. If it is a US game and the only two languages are English and Japanese, should I leave the Japanese alone?
Any help would be appreciated

your game version calls for specific files for the game folder. as long as you dont delete the "necessary" files your good to go.
as a further example, i remember downloading "something" that didnt even have any cutscenes in it. and it still worked. but i personally like cut scenes and story lines. so dont delete any of those :P

I would never delete cutscenes. It takes too much away from the game/story. I refuse to mess with one that's been tampered with that way. So what you're saying is if I delete the French directory, Germany directory, etc, etc, then I'll be ok?

also, do I need to delete the files or create zero length files meaning the same directory structure but the files I don't need are 0 bytes (empty placeholders)

I deleted the extra language files from my Killzone 3 backup and everything worked fine. You should be fine if you delete the extras.

when you are unsure. move before you delete. move the questionable files (or folders) to a different directory on the same HDD using multiMAN. Then launch the game. If it doesn't hiccup after a few hours (or days) of playing, you can then just delete the files. At the same time, if you come across a problem, just move them back.
PS3: Slim 320GB / CFW KMEAW 3.55 / multiMAN v04.xx.xx / blackb0x FTP Server v1.2 3.55 w/ FlashFXP 4.2.x
PS2: SLIM & PHAT / FreeMcBOOT w/ESR & OPL 9-r651 / SMS w/PSClient v1.3.1
PSP: PHAT / 5.00 M33-6

Yeah...... "original game disc".....
Anyways, thanks for the help guys. I'm gonna try just zeroing out the files in case some of the games do a check to see if the files are still there

ive deleted every single foreign language file in over 40 games and played them in full without any problems. ive even deleted the multiplayer folders in some games e.g battlefield and none has ever given any problems!
