Need to change internal harddrive in my 40gig fat –

I have a 40 gb fat ps3.
If i need to change internal hard drive, wat are the precautions do i need to be taking.
1.Should i re install kmea3.55 ?
2.Should i ask for 7200rpm or 5400 rpm to the computer vendor ?
3.Does it often crash the ps3 system to rebuild the databse if we change hard drives of this sort ? and is it safe ?
4.Also wat is the maximum capacity of internal harddrive swap, because i have plans to buy a 640 gig.
Ps3 40gb->3.55Kmeaw->3TB External USB->Multiman1.17/Ps3 320gb->4.00Fw-> Only for PSN Online Play
Psp3004->6.60Pro-B8->8gb Produo2/Nintendo Wii->4.1U->Usb Gx loader2.3->320Gb Usb Hdd
Xbox 360Slim->4Gb->LT2.0 Flashed >No online
/ Ps2 Fat model->HDloader->120gbIDE->Network adapter plugged

If its a phat, just install the hdd. That's all. It'll do the quick format and restore your cfw for you. Of course, do a backup of the 40gb with the system xmb utility before upgrading. I just did the same 2 weeks ago with no issue.

ive got up to 1 tb in one of my ps3's slim, tho with the 1tb i had to leave the hdd cage out, on the fat one you need to mod it to fit lol
my phat one has a 5400 rpm wd scorpio something, installed perfectly fine and is very safe as far as i know.
also mine didnt crash at all.

2. I went with 5400 due to overheating rumors with the 7200s
3. I've never had to rebuild the database once, so I wouldn't know.
4. 750gb is the largest 9.3mm drive

Despite popular belief, hard drives stand up to heat quite well. I have a 7200 in my slim. No problems.
Remember, from a hard drive's perspective a PS3 environment isn't any different than a laptop environment. Closed-quarters and hot. People use 7200s in laptops all the time.
