Need advice for upgrading ps3 hdd's

Hi guy's, I want to upgrade my slim past 1tb for reasons I wont go into and the only option is a 12.5mm/high model ATM. I saw this thread: http://psx-scene.com/forums/f177/how...minutes-74826/ (How to install 12.5mm 1TB drive with no modding in 2 minutes) but that was a few months ago and I want to know if anyone has had problems like over heating. I would also like your advice about the compatibility and if having a 1.5 or 2tb would cut the consoles performance, thanks in advance.

I've been using a 12.5 mm high 1TB model since March of last year. No problems with it. Just make sure you don't stick your PS3 in a drawer or behind closed doors of an entertainment center. You can also get little fans that clip on the back of your PS3 for about $5 at GameStop if you're worried about overheating

Sweet thanks mate, I always keep my consoles well ventilated(I'm a bit anal when it comes to caring for consoles) but I probably will end up getting a cooling fan just in case.

Stay away from 2TB. Terrible reading issues. I learned the hard way.

I want to know too cause I can get a 2tb pretty cheap ATM but I wont bother with it if I cant use it as an internal

Well I've just purchased a 2tb wd drive, if the performance sucks I'll just use it as an external, either way it's less ext hdd swapping

It should be ok but I found that a 1TB drive increased my load times outrageously.

@BahumatLord Using a large drive the PS3 cannot handle it. I'm not sure about using it internally. @Shaitan I hope it works out as internal because external it will be useless. USELESS! The PS3 needed USB 3.0 technology to handle the bigger drives. Sell/ get rid of the 2TB and get a 1TB internal and a 1TB external. Trust me. You cannot even watch movies using an external 2TB HDD. I took the leap without actually remembering that the PS3 is a linear OS, it cannot multi task and the technology is outdated. I love the PS3, my baby, but she could have had an extra GB of RAM and USB 3.0.

I would advise anyone reading this...

If you want to upgrade you internal drive get a 500GB to 1TB and the same for the external. Don't go big, you will only be disappointed.

Thanks for your advice guy's, I've decided against installing it as an internal because I've got way too much that I'll need to re-install. I deleted the games folder and all the video's and there's still over 400gb and I'd have to re-download almost half of it. I've tested a heap of stuff using it as an external and I can't tell the difference in loading times except for when Multiman starts but that's always been a problem for me with externals.
