Need advice on artifacting PS3/freezes
So last night, I'm playing my PS3 for about 2 hours and out of nowhere, the screen turns green and starts to artifact and go crazy, much like the video you see here...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aWE0e0TlGuw/. I don't believe it was overheating and I've never received warnings about it getting too hot or shutdowns before. Locally there is a shop that does reflows with an actual bga reflow station and they specialize in YLOD and the like for $50 and if they can't fix it, it's free.
There is audio
My PS3 is the CECHG 40gb model
I haven't ever opened it, warranty sticker is intact
I have technical experience, but don't want to take a heat gun to it
I'm thinking it's probably the rsx and not so much the Cell
I haven't tried anything but HDMI, as I do not have component/composite (I can get)
It works for a few minutes, then garbled nonsense
No YLOD, it powers on fine, works for just minutes
Could this just be overheating?
Would opening it, cleaning it out, and applying new thermal paste do anything at this point?
If the above does not work, should I try a shim fix?
Should I take my chances with the repair shop?
Any thoughts or suggestions are truly valued. Thanks in advance!
