What kills the scene is the amount of people that post in the first page of every new front paged news thread with comments such as "if this isn't 3.56+ cfw then stfu", "does this mean I can play xyz game", and "where are 3.60+ keys". Those comments are garbage, very annoying, and extremely discouraging to the people that are actually doing the work. Now, the total blame is not only on the users, some of the hackers are whiny little b*tches too. Look at the king of trolls, Mathieu. Every other day you could search his name or see the convos on IRC and find another video or statement from him saying he's found this and that and isn't gonna release it or let anyone else know enough info to do it themselves. The false hope discourages the users and makes them expect that others can do what he's only stating he can do, and makes them think that EVERYONE is holding out because he is. It's a disgusting cycle, but if we don't all pull our heads out of our a$$es and come together for the scene, it's not gonna get any better.
Blah Blah Blah
I bought my PS3 for the hack, so while a handful of people are chomping at the bit for an update (and being quite noisy doing so), I'm fine.
I don't see why people think it's the end of the world because their demands haven't been met.
The reason this scene isn't doing so well is because the hackers who could figure it out, have people who have already figured it out, ready to release their stuff the moment anyone else figures it out. It's like posting first on a topic. It's stupid.
Think about it. Geo said he wouldn't release his exploit. Then Failoverflow mentioned that they might release it as soon as it was ready. Immediately Geo released just enough to prove he was first.
I wish the people who go on and on about 'I can't wait and you should all update too' would get a temporary banned. A 1 day ban for first offense, a week ban for second offense, and a month for third offense. If post count is below 30 it's a month ban (So as to keep Sony shills from just spamming a bunch of accounts) because all they're doing is destabilizing the scene. Like a bunch of people at a bank screaming that they won't give them their money creates a run on the bank. It's damaging to the community.
Besides, no hacker ever said that the system was going to remain exploited. They said IF they released the last key, it would be forever exploited. They didn't release the key. The scene didn't fail them. They failed the scene.
Love the thread. Great ideas. Only problem I have is with the people who keep typing "Get a job". Where the **** DO YOU LIVE?!!!! It must not be AMERICA, and if it is...YOU ALREADY HAVE A JOB!!! Some people don't have a job. And considering the way the economy is, it's probably hard as shit to get a job. Also...most of the users on here are probably 14 and under. I only know of a few that are actually 16 and older.
I admit I'm unemployed. Been looking for a job since last November when my Feminist Boss decided that I wasn't 'skilled enough' to work as a secretary and fired me for two women off the street. According to one of my ex-coworkers, she's paying them double what she was paying me and they refuse to do half the stuff I was subjected to.
That's in Southern Ohio and Northern Kentucky. What's pissing me off is every job now has a related experience requirement. One place wouldn't hire me because I had been unemployed for more then two months. Another place wanted me to have 4 years of experience with Windows Server 2008. I'm looking for Warehouse, and IT since I have an Associates Degree in CNS. I almost got a Walmart job until my Ex-Boss from above made it a point to send a fax that accused me of being a sexist, raciest, pedophile, murderer, and puppy kicker. Not really, but it was flat out damage of character. I've sent out at least a hundred resume's and I've filled out hundreds of job apps. Which bring me to another thing I've noticed. About five years ago all apps were almost identical. Now they're all custom so I can't just keep a stack preprinted. In all I've had sixteen interviews with only two calling me back to tell me that someone far more skilled then me showed up right after me. I have two that I have a good feeling about, but neither has gotten back to me. I've recently started leaving the one with the feminist boss off my resume. Things have gotten a little better since then.
It's bad when I have to freaking lie to get an eight dollar a hour wage job.
I don't have a criminal record. I've never done drugs, or smoked. All my other records are clean. So I agree with Jammol. Where are all the employed people here working?
Even my temp agency isn't getting me work. Of course there is no end of charity requests. Speaking of which, every place I've volunteered is filled with people who can't find a job. A lot of them are very capable workers. I don't care what the media says, the situation isn't getting any better. The unemployment rate doesn't include people who have been unemployed for more than six months. That's the only reason it's going down. The news also fails to report that crime rates have been on the rise as people become desperate. The sad part is that I can understand why.
Sorry about the massive derailment, please continue with original subject line.
1. Time (Waiting for the new cfw)
2. Sacrifice (Not being able to play the newer launch ps3 games)
if you don't have those two elements then (sigh) you might as well update
Personally the reason I think not much forward movement has been made is the simple fact that Sony went after everyone hardcore style and hackers like the efame. I mean dont get me wrong they deserve all the congratulations after all the hard work they put into hacking the console BUT the fact they cannot release it anonymously makes them not want to release anything, which again you cant blame them for because they deserve the credit.
There could be someone waiting in the wings to release something but the person may want to wait until some of the big games come out between now and the holiday season ( we can hope :P )
