My ps3 is the same model as you guys, It will no longer read bluray movies or games but CDs and DVDs play fine, I haven't tried a ps1 or ps2 game. Basically just wondering if any other update. I've got to order one of these lasers, and I want to make sure when I get it and install it I don't lose backwards compatibility. Kes400a is the laser I need correct? Is our model the cechb01? Sorry I couldn't help you, maybe you can help me though. I contacted a couple people and they said the diode that reads blurays has gone out on my system, maybe the diode that reads CDs DVDs ps1&2 games is out on the replacement part you got. Did you get your part off eBay or amazon?

Well Bqmco07, no update as of yet unfortunately, however in regards to your question you can check what model number your PS3 is by checking the backside of the unit. It should be located somewhere near the power supply input. If not, well...I can't post outside links on this site, but what I can tell you is to Google "How to tell what model number your PS3 is", and look for a link that has edepot in the name. It's a wonderful site with numerous tools in helping homebrew creators/users alike, and will help you better determine your hardware specs/needs. As for the laser diode, we're still unsure if that's the case, but when we get around to obtaining a new laser assembly, we shall post our results. And as for where we obtained our laser assembly, it was most assuredly NOT from either of those distributors. If you're looking for a well-priced, reliable dealer, again...outside links are taboo, but search around. There are a few good computer parts specialists that don't dick around, and will give you the parts you need.
