I have 20GB Playstation 3 one of the first ones, i changed two 500GB hdd's 7200RPM and transfer speed is super slow trough FTP i used to have ~10MB/s on wire trough router now it dropped to like 1.5-3MB/s and when i try to copy game from disk using MultiMAN it shows 764Hours for 14GB game.

Guess problem is bad support for large hard drives in OLD firmware 3.55 / Kmeaw. So if someone knows whats the maximum HDD size i can install to work at full speed let me know.

    Should i try another CFW?

I just installed a 1TB 2.5 inch internal and it's blazing fast. Although I don't use FTP. 1TB is the largest internal drive the PS3 will recognize. I'm not sure if the firmware would even have the low level code that would affect a hard drive's performance.

OK restart and directly plugging PS3 to my PC did not change much speed was 6GB tops. I bet if i take out that upgrade HDD from PS3 and plug into laptop i can run benchmark and get about 20MB/S + speeds.

Is there any homebrew HDD benchmark for PS3 CFW?

maybe there was a problem on SATA protocol handshaking, it happens a lot in Western Digital HDD and Seagate were switching SATA 1/2/3 were automatically done through protocol handshaking.

In Western Digital and Seagate, there's a pin that will set the HDD into SATA 1 mode. Try using that and it might fix your problem. Samsung HDD is little more harder to take SATA1 to achive, you need to boot into DOS mode and boot the Samsung HDD utility and that will set your HDD into SATA1 mode.
