So I have a strange issue, I recently bought a used PS3 from a guy on kijiji (craigslist equivalent), it works fine, and i can browse online and connect to PSN, but I will get nothing but issues and slowness.. Now, before you attack the router config, please take note that there is a second PS3 on this network and gets no speed issues.

Now, Web browsing seems to be a bit "faster" but is still terribly slow, PSN will connect but take a good minute to authenticate and let me on, don't even bother going into PS store or download updates, because I'm not waiting 50 minutes anymore to get an error. (701b something? 803 something and a few more)

This console is a BC 80GB Phat, that was used as a BD player, pretty much zero wear (buddy had the ****ing stickers still on it!) I asked him what FW it had, and he upgraded to 3.55 (DURP!) so I have no idea on how it was working with previous firmwares.

If anyone can help me get the network going on this console again I will forever be in your debt..

This is what I have done:

    Router:
Static IP with forwards for PSN for PS3
    Put PS3 in DMZ
Assigned "known" fast DNS servers for PSN..
Firmware update (i ran out of ideas)

    PS3:
    Wired connection
    Wireless Connection
    UPNP enabled / Disabled
    Static / Dynamic IP
    Local Proxy
    Firmware restore (from recovery mode)

For the love of beer, I need help getting this going, last thing I want is to USB transfer my stuff all the time, I'm going nuts already doing testing on some tweaks and having to get my lazy ass off the couch and into the PS3!!

Thanks in advanced, I know we have some good collective brain power on here to solve this!!

    Cheers,
    JB

Youve tried both wired and wireless connections on this unit with the same result? The wireless connection uses a different chip on a different board so if they both are slow the problem is either in the PS3 os (unlikely) or your network.

Thanks for the quick reply.. I do think It's either a software issue, because like I mentionned above, I have a second Phat PS3 on 3.55 also that works fine, wireless AND wired.

Would it be possible the south-bridge or something to be malfunctioning?

Or, now with the recent downgrade from 3.55 (I have a 256 nand) does anybody know of a FW that uses a different network stack or re-writes it on a firmware update? I would assume a 3.55 to 3.55 doesn't touch that kind of stuff..

    Cheers,
    JB

    Bump, anyone?

Is there a way to change just the part of flash with the network stack? If anybody knows where it's located or can send me a zip file with theirs would be great... I have no idea what else I can try..

Easiest thing to do is Try a new network cable.
Has the console been opened up? if so take the top covers off and check the short ribbon cable that connects to the wifi board. If this cable is bad or not seated properly it affects wifi, wired LAN and blue tooth operation such as controller sync being either slow/ difficult, or not at all even with a usb cable connected.
