LaCie EXT HDD USB 3.0 Work on PS3 ?
LaCie EXT HDD USB 3.0 Work on PS3 ? –
I need a new External HDD because my old one is full and was interested by this one
Will it work fine since it's USB 3.0 ? I chose this one particularly because i never had trouble with them.
What would you guys recommend me for a new External HDD(No Seagate) ?
USB 3.0 is backward compatible with USB 2.0, so it should work fine.
USB 3.0 HDDs will work on PS3 but on USB 2.0 protocols. So essentially you will get a theoretical transfer speed of USB 2.0 i.e., 480Mb/s. If the price of USB 3.0 HDD is now equivalent to USB 2.0 HDD (same capacity, of course) then you can buy USB 3.0 HDDs. However, if the price difference is much you should buy one that is only USB 2.0 because you will actually never utilize the full potential of 3.0 protocol on a PS3.

Most of the WD HDDs we tested had performed better than others (Hitachi, Toshiba, Transcend, iOmega, Buffalo and Sony). Seagate is another option you can go for but you already said no for that.
My PS3 have WD 1TB internal with sector size 4kB.
